Skin Install Tips
Clear a work space and make sure all skin parts are ready and accessible, general area is clean and dust free
* Skins can get static and attract dust
Step - 1. Cleaning
Using Microfiber cloth clean the surface the skin it to be applied to, ensure any grease marks, fingerprints, dust etc is all removed
* We do not recommend using cleaning fluids, especially ones that may leave a film or shine, if any cleaning fluids are used make sure they are fully dried and wiped off.
Step - 2. Check the skins and the required devices or surfaces being applied to are ready.
*Take care when removing the skins from the backing paper, some parts may need to be weeded / picked out if not needed.
*Keep touching the sticky side to a minimum, as this could affect the adhesive.(greasy or dusty fingers will contaminate the sticky surface)
Step - 3. Installing the Skin
*Take your time installing, to ensure correct adhesion and prefect fitment.
* Starting with bigger parts that will be fit to flat areas is easier and gives a feel for installing
- Remove the skin from the backing paper, exposing the adhesive side
- Hold the skin over the surface being applied to, just keep the skin from touching.
- Use an edge or cutout holes to align the skin
- Gently place the skin down, if alignment is off this is the best time to lift and adjust. *be careful lifting to ensure the skin does not get creased or stretched
- When happy with alignment of the skin, apply firm pressure to the skin working from the center to the edges, work out any trapped air bubbles, edges can be lifted to help remove if needed. * Avoid pressing the edges of the skin fully until any air is out or this could result in creases
- When applying skins to curves or corners, extra pressure may be needed to get the skin to adhere correctly
- Skins on complex curves the are tricky can be stretched a little to aid the skin to work flat and remove air without creasing
* If the skin has been applied and creases are present, or air pockets are trapped and difficult to remove to help fix this, if the problem area of the skin is lifted slightly and warmed with a Hot air gun or Hairdryer just enough to remove the crease in the material and soften the skin, this will then allow that part of the skin to be placed back down and will smooth out and remove creases.
*Skins on complex or tight curves benefit from the use of a little heat to help the skin flex and stay bonded
*If heat is used to warm the skin to aid install, 5-10 second medium warm air should be fine, or just till the skin feels more flexible and lays down easier.
